What is a Clutch?
The engine is connected to the drive-line to move the car. Automatic transmissions automatically disconnect the engine to select a different gear ratio to keep the engine at its best engine speed. MANUALLY operated transmission require the driver to do that. Depressing the pedal un-clamps the disc that is inside of two rotating parts that were "clutching" the inner "disk". There is slippage during the clamping if the disk at the pedal is released, The longevity is dependant of the skill of the driver.
